VALDOSTA — South Georgia Council for Youth in the Performing Arts hosts an audition workshop Thursday evening for its first musical production, “Honk!”
“Honk!” is a musical by Anthony Drewe, book and lyrics, and George Stiles, music, based on Hans Christian Anderson’s tale of “The Ugly Duckling.”
The workshop will focus on the music, characters and story of “Honk!” It will also provide tips for the audition, says Sandy Trowell, a council member. The show will be directed by Suzanne Chafin.
The auditions will be held this weekend and are for youths aged 6 and up, with a target group of fourth to twelfth graders.
During the auditions, each performer will be expected to perform a monologue and sing a short selection of a song.
Youths selected for the show will rehearse 6:30-8 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays, with a weekend each month, through March, April and May. The performances will be 7:30 p.m., May 21, 22, Valdosta High School Performing Arts Center.
