6th Grade Math Bee

“Sure!” I accepted excited. Miss Farooqui , my math teacher, had just offered me a spot in the Math Bee because of my high math average. Hmm, I thought. A Math bee is all about me answering problems the fastest, right?
Wrong! At first, when I though that was the case, I became extremely worried. The only reason I was so good in math was because I took my time and checked my work carefully. When I went to the meeting, the Math Bee organizers cleared everything up and answered the questions students had to ask. Participants learned that they would have enough time to do and check your work
The Math Bee was held on May 23rd and before I knew it, I was waiting on a chair, marker and markerboard on my lap, anxious for the first problem. Many problems whizzed past my face and as the competitors got fewer and fewer rivals, things got a little bit suspenseful. Who would win?
Unfortunately, I multiplied instead of adding and that one little fluke messed up my goal of winning. I was out in and was in fourth place. My friend, Rahi Parikh, won the sixth grade Math Bee. I had a hunch she would win. Though I was out, I was glad to have participated in the math Bee. It was interesting, challenging and “tons” of fun ! The Math Bee is an exhilarating event, not to mention educational, and one you surely don’t want to miss!
