Tally Youngblood is an Ugly. In the society that she lives in, when you turn sixteen you are operated on. The doctors make you pretty. Her best friend already turned sixteen and had his operation. Now she is waiting her turn. When she meets Shay, he new Ugly best friend, she discovers something life altering. She is forced to make the decision of turning in Shay or never being pretty.
This is the type of story where the good school girl, who hasn’t had to make any big decisions in her life, now has to make the biggest decision of her life. This book includes futuristic technology and a lot of suspense. Romance, friendship, and physical well being are the most important things in this story. Will Tally turn her boyfriend and best friend in or will she think of the consequences of turning pretty?
This book is really good. If you’ve ever been in a situation where you have to pick one thing or the other, in which the decision will change your life, you will know how Tally feels. The author is excellent and so is the story. Scott Westerfeld has great taste and I hope you enjoy this book.

I personally love this book, & I can't think of any other book that I liked more than this book!
I would have to say that my favorite part in the book is when Tally meets David the boy from outside of their city & they automatically click. Soon afterwards they get to know more about each other & David tell's Tally she is beautiful.That means a lot to Tally because where she is from if you don't get the operation then you are concidered an ugly person.
So I think this book is really good because it teaches you that no matter what other people are doing that you like or want to do there is always something else out there that can make you more happier then what all your friends were doing.
The only reason they have them get the operation is because before they thought of all of this a lot of violence was going on that was distroying the world or people were depending on nature to much & cutting down trees or burning our resources that it was destroying what we all know as Earth.
So in order to stop what people were doing they had an operation done when they were sixteen. Not only were they making their bone structure & features change they were putting brain lettions in their heads so that they were pretty much brain dead. All they would ever want to do is have fun, not destroy the world & do what others were doing.
