Boy Scouts prepare for 100th birthday in Va. The Boy Scouts of America are preparing to celebrate their 100th anniversary with a national jamboree in Virginia.

More than 46,000 Boy Scouts, leaders, staff and volunteers from around the world are expected at the 2010 National Scout Jamboree, which starts Monday. Organizers also expect around 250,000 visitors.

Scouts ages 12 to 18 will spend 10 days doing everything from archery and fishing to robotics and testing their own DNA.

The group has held the event at the Fort A.P. Hill Army base every four years since 1981. It skipped a year so the event could mark the organization's 100th anniversary. The Boy Scouts have hosted the gathering since 1937.

Organizers plan to move the event to a permanent site in West Virginia in 2013.

I attended the Jamboree and had tons of fun! I even got Sean White's autograph while shooting at the Camp Thunder shotgun range! Having a British contingent in my Troop was fun because we almost switched accents : ) We also toured Philadelphia, Gettysburg, Washington D.C., and even got to see the Baltimore Oriels lose again! Boy Scouts is a good program for teaching life skills, respect, leadership, and is fun too.

I didnt stay at the jamboree but i went for 2 day visits and it was great. I ended up with 2 merit badges and tons of free stuff. The National Guard and Coast Guard areas were my favorite. With the scouts the places i have gone to were some of the most beautiful places i have ever seen. I cant wait until the next jamboree.

I I'm in boy scouts and I also think that its cool for Boy Scouts to be around for 100 years. If you join boy scouts you can see how the uniforms have changed. The best part is the summer camp at North Carolina YOU CAN EARN 7 MERIT BADGES!! You also once you get your swimming merit badge you can swim in the huge lake. But the water is cold so be careful.

I atttened the National Jamboree it was amazing. Getting my Eagle Scout on the 100th anniversity of scouts made it even better. The two arena shows where amazing getting to hear Robert Gates(secetary of defence), Mike Rowe, and others speak was very neat as well as listing to Switchfoot preform. This was something i will not froget.

Boy Scouts is a cool thing. I am a Boy Scout and I could of gone to the Jamboree but I didn't. I think it is very neat that scouts can get together from all over the nation and do different things together. Even though this is the first year in a really long time that the president hasn't shown up at it I think it would still be really fun to go to it. It is amazing that Boy Scouts has been together for a 100 years now all starting with Baden Powell, the founder of Boy Scouts. I think that Boy Scouting could go on for another hundred years too. One of the best parts is if you achieve Eagle scout it can help you get in to better colleges and get better jobs.

100th annerversity for giving cookies to nieghbors.....haha that is awesome how they managed to pull through for 100 years. i wonder if my great great grandfather was a boy scout?? inn other words though that is good for them to keep the traditions going.
