Chile Earthquake

On Saturday February 27, 2010, the ground moved in Chile, South America. It was an earthquake, and it was the 7th strongest one on record (8.8 on the rector scale). No one knows why it happened and many people suffered.

This earthquake affects everyone in the world; the earthquake is believed that it
knocked us off our axis about 3 in., so days are 1.26 milliseconds longer. In Chile houses, cities, ect. are gone. Jake thinks, “It effected people, hospitals, umm ill
people”. The epicenter was about 317 kilometers of Santiago, which is the capital of
Chile. There was 122 deaths and counting, and more are being found at the epicenter so there is no way of knowing how many people died. A epicenter is the main place that a earthquake occurred.

How this happened is very simple, a rock underground breaks along a fault line, this
causes seismic waves(vibrations) that shake the ground. Then the rock rubs together and builds up pressure and breaks (this breaking is the earthquake).

As Cara says, “Chile was a horrible disaster, I wish that it was not as bad as it was. “
And will more earthquakes will happen soon? Well we hope nothing else
happens because the quake might have triggered a tsunami, and that would not be
good.

That's two major earthquakes in a row in about a month. It is horrible what happened in both cities. And then there was a tsunami alert headed toward Hawaii too.

Good job, you could have explained some words that were hard to understand. I agree that it did affect a lot of people and I feel really bad for them. I did not know that affected us and i was really surprised to find that out.

Nice job explaining. I think you should have added a little more detail. What is the rector scale? (it is spelled rictor). This was a little boring so try to spice up ur next article that you do.

The Richter scale is what measures a earthquake, if you want to know, 800,000 <3.4 earthquakes happen a year! The lower the number the less damage it (earthquake) can do, a <3.4 earthquake only can be detected by very sensitive people (maby not even so). A >8.0 earthquake only happens in 5-10 years!! Thank you for the advice!!
