Food & Health
Did we get healthier in the past decade? Nope.
About 10 years ago the government set some lofty health goals for the nation to reach by 2010. There are more obese Americans than a decade ago, not fewer. We eat more salt and fat, not less. More of us have high blood pressure. More children have untreated tooth decay.
But the nation has had better luck raising childhood vaccination rates, lowering cancer death rates, increasing smoking laws and reducing most types of work injuries.
Right now, health officials are developing goals for 2020. The details are far from settled, but an advisory panel of experts has recommended that the new goals be more realistic. They also hope to make it more inviting to the public and perhaps — less ambitious.
The program called "Healthy People 2020" may be an online document that links to Web sites and sources for nutrition and exercise advice and other ways people can improve their own health.

I think that people can try harder with food too. I think they should go outside more. That usually helps. If people think how fun it can be they will be skinnier and it will be solved and better in 2020.
This is really odd because a long time ago like in the 1800's people wouldn't care what they ate. When they traveled along the Oregon trail they barely had enough food for the long long trip. Many people threw food out of their wagons to lighten the load but later they found out that they should have gotten ride of something else because they needed that food that they threw out to survive. I think that people should think about back then when they waste food because they are to worried about what they look like then maybe everyone wouldn't judge each other as much.
Why did we set goals for our nation to fight obesity when we knew that fast food has overcome most of our nation? We need to wake up to obesity and stop false goals that bring false dreams to people who are obese. All we need to do is physically do something like running and eat healthy.
I think that personally, this problem can be solved so easily!
McDonalds always said "always fresh" and things like that, but if you read the nutrition label, IT IS NOT HEALTHY WHATSOEVER. it's the same thing as Wendy's and Burger King. None of them are as healthy as they try to appear to be; the chicken is frozen, the tomatoes are shipped over and who knows what else they do to the other food. There are chemicals put in the food to make them taste better.
Of course we didn't get healthier. When are we going to? Never, unless people become more aware.
I agree! No fast food restaurants are even trying to be more healthy. They have all that grease and crap on the burgers and fries. Also they load the fries with salt which is horrible for you.
I feel bad for obese people. it must be hard to live like that. I would think that we got less healthy a while ago.
