Fair to introduce parents to education resources
VALDOSTA — The Greater Valdosta Navigator Team will host a Community Resource Fair on Saturday to introduce parents to resources that can improve their children’s educational experience, said Amy White, team leader. The free three-hour event will be held in the Valdosta Middle School cafeteria from 9 a.m. until noon.
The goal of the fair is to support families and empower parents and educators to maximize children’s learning opportunities, White said. More than 22 vendors and agencies will be on hand, offering information on a wide range of resources. All of the information provided is intended to help parents, children and educators maintain a positive and productive relationship, she said.
White works as a trainer for Parent to Parent of Georgia, a program of the Georgia Council on Developmental Disabilities. While children with special needs are one focus of Saturday’s resource fair, parents of children without disabilities will also benefit from the training session and other information provided, she said.
White will conduct a special seminar from 10 a.m. until noon focusing on effective communication, listening skills, how to develop a filing system, creating a learning plan, being part of an IEP (Individual Education Plan) Team, etc.
“It’s all about linking families and communities together,” she said.
