iPad vs. textbook: which one do you want?
iPad vs. textbook: which one do you want?
School? There's an app for that. According to the New York Times, an increasing number of schools across the country are replacing textbooks with iPads, and using the Apple gadget as an overall learning tool.
The iPads are being distributed by schools to students and teachers, and allow students to learn lessons, correspond with teachers and turn in assignments. Teachers say the devices let students to have a multimedia experience when learning English, math and more, and help to teach pupils using animation and games.
Schools in New York, Illinois, Arizona and New Jersey have already embraced the gadget, and more states are expected to follow. However, the educational value of the hi-tech devices has yet to be proven by research.
"There is very little evidence that kids learn more, faster or better by using these machines," said Larry Cuban, a professor emeritus of education at Stanford University. "IPads are marvelous tools to engage kids, but then the novelty wears off and you get into hard-core issues of teaching and learning."
But teachers are in full support of the thousands of educational apps available, and praise the physical design of the iPad, which allows students to maintain eye contact with them. The lightweight device also relieves students of heavy, textbook-loaded backpacks, which can cause neck, back and shoulder pain.

I would want to have the Ipad but, I doubt that schools would buy ipads if they had some money. Most school districts cant afford simple school supplies like pencils or paper. Some teachers are forced to buy there own supplies for their classrooms.
I would rather have an iPad because the Internet has the most advanced information. If you have a textbook it would be written since a long time ago it doesn't have the most recent information. That's why I would rather have an iPad.
I would rather have an iPad than a tablet because an iPad can do more stuff than a tablet. Also iPad can make apps for school and other stuff.
Yeah I agree with you. iPads are way better and can do a lot more. Though something you have to think about is the price of an iPad compared to a textbook.
I would rather have a text book than an iPad because you can always rely on a text book whereas an iPad may shut down on you. Overall I don't like staring at a screen while doing my homework. Yet, that's just my opinion.
I don't really like the idea of replacing a text book with an ipad. I prefer learning the old fashion way, but making it fun too.
I dont doubt that schools would buy ipads if they had some money. Most school districts cant afford simple school supplies like pencils or paper. Some teachers are forced to buy there own supplies for their classrooms. Some private schools have ipads because they tend to have more money.
I think iPads should be used instead of text books because they don't take up a lot of space and they could be more organized. They also would save some trees, which is good for the earth. I have an iPad and it is very handy when used for schoolwork.
I think its a great idea that there changing textbooks into ipads. Text books are heavy especially when you have to go to a lot of classes. If you have a ipad for a text book it would be faster to go to different passing periods and you wont have to be late and get a tardy. When your teacher tells you to turn the page it will be easier because you just touch the screen of the ipad and it will flip,so i guess its a great idea.
I think that's a great idea to replace books with iPads. IPads are really FUN!!!! With iPads, students can learn and have fun at the same time. IPads are faster and easier to study with.
