“The words seemed to take on a new meaning as I sang them: they were real.
I was the Faerie Girl.
Fro and to in my dreams to you
To the hunting tune of the harp
For the price I paid when you died that day
I paid that day with my heart
Fro and to in my dreams to you
With the breaking of my heart
Ne’er more again will I sing this song
Ne’er more will I hear the harp.”
The book Lament: The Faerie Queen’s Deception centers around 16-year-old Deidre Monaghan, gifted with the harp and the clover hand. Able to see Them, she meets Luke Dillon, a boy who seems to have entered her life out of nowhere, but is he interested in her for romance or much darker reasons? Also involved is her best friend: loyal, witty, bagpipe-and-kilt wearing James. But when the stalker killer (and I don’t mean killer in the good way) Aodhan shows up with orders from the Faerie Queen to kill Dee, she must choose whom to trust, lover Luke or more than best friend James.
Maggie Stiefvater artfully puts together a book of deception, friendship, triangles of love, and faeries. When I first saw the book Lament I thought it was just another faerie book about how a child gets taken away and replaced with a faerie or changeling. But then I started to read the book and the more I read the more I got into it, I COULD NOT PUT THE BOOK DOWN. It was so good with lots of twists and turns, fights, charms, and nights alone. Lament will pull you in just as it did to me.

Mia~ I really enjoyed reading your review on Lament! I could not put the book down either! I have also read Ballad- but FYI~ it doesn't focus on the same main characters. If you liked Lament, you should read the Mortal Instruments trilogy by Cassandra Clare. It's the BEST series I have ever read.
Thanks again for writing such a great review for FTBT [For Teens, By Teens]! xoxo Mrs. Duncan
