Local Prayer Breakfast to raise awareness of global poverty

VALDOSTA — The South Georgia Coalition to End Homelessness will host its third annual Prayer Breakfast Friday morning.
The theme of this year’s breakfast is “Hope for the Future.” The event will focus on combating homelessness in Lowndes County as well as poverty in Haiti.
The guest speaker for the breakfast is Pastor Willie Roberson of New Beginnings Church Ministries.
“Some of our homeless clients will also speak about how much the community efforts to end homelessness are needed in the community,” said South Georgia Coalition to End Homelessness Program Director Diane West. “In addition, we will have presentations by Shamiaha Ballerd from Teach Inc. Ministries and Caleb Ford from Joyous Praise.”
This year, the coalition has partnered with the Valdosta Area Ministerial Association to host the event. Other community partners include Bajalia Law Firm, Joyous Praise, Wells Fargo, Volunteer Connection, the Haven Battered Women’s Shelter and Rape Crisis Center, Behavioral Health Services of South Georgia and the Lowndes County Board of Commissioners.
The Prayer Breakfast is held every year in February to promote awareness of homelessness in Lowndes County. It is held at Crossing Missionary Baptist Church, which is pastored by Dr. Ronnie Mathis.
