Man runs to top of Empire State in 10 minutes
It took Thomas Dold 10 minutes and 16 seconds Tuesday to earn his record-tying fifth consecutive win in the Empire State Building Run-Up, a punishing 86-flight scamper to the top of New York's tallest building.
Grimacing as he lunged across the finish line on the 86th floor observation deck, the 25-year-old from Stuttgart, Germany, beat fellow German Matthias Jahn up the 1,576 steps by 40 seconds.
"I'm so tired ... It was quite hard," Dold said. He is the third person to win the race five times. His only loss was a photo finish in his 2005 debut.
Melissa Moon, 40, of Wellington, New Zealand, placed first among the women in 13 minutes, 13 seconds. She finished panting, but smiling.
"Oh, look at that view!" she said at the top.
Kacie Fischer, 24, of Pismo Beach, Calif., reached the top, in 20th place among the women, collapsed in a heap and had to be carried inside.
"I blacked out," she said later. "I just got so dizzy, going around and around and around on the stairs. My legs gave out at floor 50, and then I ran another 36 floors."

How many levels is the empire state building? Like 100 floors of all stairs! This is so amazing and I can only run a mile in 10 minutes. AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think they are very talented athlete's and will have bright futures ahead of them. Hopefully they can keep up the good work and break many more records. And if you think about it, that is very hard because that is a really tall building.
Man that guy needs some icy hot. Man, that guy has some skills, his stamina has to be really high. That is crazy, not enough not to believe but it is still insane.
I can't believe that a person can run up the Empire State Building in 10 minutes. I feel bad for that women who legs gave out on the 50 floor at least she made it up two thirds of the way. If I was one of the runners I would have passed out on the 10-20 floor but if I did make it up I would probably be already blacked out. It does get your exercise up and builds your calf muscles. And if I made it up Thomas Dold would still have the record 10 minutes and 16 seconds I'd probably make it up in 1 hour 15 minutes and 60 seconds.
I think that that is very cool and good but I would think that the record would be faster than that. I'm not saying that I could beat it in a heartbeat just that 10 minutes would be a long time for climbing stairs. But I do no how they feel when they finish I ran cross country and that was very tiring.
Awesome!! I guess it is real nice he made it to the top?? Was this his life goal. Very tiring. Great job.
