Microsoft's Gates: No Apple products for family One of the richest women in the world covets an iPhone. But she's not allowed to have one. Melinda Gates -- yes, of Microsoft's Gates family -- is quoted in the latest issue of Vogue magazine as saying, "Every now and then I look at my friends and say, ‘Ooh, I wouldn’t mind having that iPhone.' " However, she and husband Bill Gates -- who co-founded the Microsoft empire, which is of course the archenemy of Apple -- have a policy against iPods and iPhones.

"There are very few things that are on the banned list in our household," Melinda Gates said. "But iPods and iPhones are two things we don’t get for our kids."

Which probably makes the Gates offspring the only ones at school with Microsoft's Zune music players. Poor kids.

I found this pretty funny. But i can understand where Bill Gates i coming from. I mean if it were me I wouldn't want to support the company trying to put me out of buisness.

I think it is not right that the kids cant have an ipod or iphone ether. why can the kids not have a product that is made by another software company the kids are not under contracts only the mom and the dad if the dad cant get over his pride and ego than he is a control freak and needs to get over himself.

I think that's very weird that he won't let his kids use anything Microsoft. I mean apple has cooler laptops and things but Microsoft will really help with school

I think Bill Gates is going a little to far in banning everything that isn't Microsoft. If Apple is making better products than Microsoft, Gates should be inspired to make something that is better than the technology Apple made. I think the Gates family should be allowed to use Apple technology if they want, because Apple probably has a lot better music and phone products.

I think the bill gates was right not to let his kid have apple. He lets his faimly use apple that basicly admitting defaet and i dont think h and his ego will do that
