OMG! Kids send 2,000 txts per month R u kidding me? Americans punched out more than 110 billion text messages last year, double the number in the previous year and growing, as the shorthand communication becomes a popular alternative to cell phone calls.

"If teens are a leader for America, then we are moving to a text-based communication system. For them, there is less interest in talking," said Amanda Lenhart, senior research specialist at the Pew Internet and American Life Project.

Her research found the average teen currently sends more than 2,000 text messages per month. About two-thirds of all teens use text messaging, mostly due to its simplicity as well as the privacy of being able to communicate without being overheard.

Lenhart predicted that texting would continue to grow as parents begin using it as an easy way to reach their kids.

Texting is normal for us,kids, these days. We text instead of calling, and emailing. It's just our thing nowadays, we just need to know how to control the amount we send.

alright 2000 text messages is alot but i haave a friend that send out any ware from 10 to 13 thousand text messages a month. its pretty crazy but soon of later kids are going to get brain damage from that stuff.

Are you sure about that..In my school a person can send a 2,000 in a month..That is not true that in a month kids send 2,000 texts.. You may want to get your facts straight before you say anything...

This research is very accurate, when my dad was little he would use the phone to call people but now kids only text. I don't like calling people because, texting is easier. Even my little sister has about 2,000 text massages a month! It is easy to believe how many text messages Americans have, almost everyone in my school has a phone!

if you dont want to pay a bill for texting, just get an ipod touch. there is an app called textplus that lets you txt anyone 4 free . i got the app and it is sooooo cool. i sometimes txt for hours

texting thing for juniors are fun for them I'm a 14 year girl and i like to text alot but I mean a lot. My mom sometimes takes my phone because I been texting tooooo much...and I also think they should not let little kids to be texting toooo much because they get use to it and then they are not going to pay attention to schools
