Slick, Self-Portrait, 1977: Just how lasting is a first impression? Take one look at Slick, then decide. Barkley Hendricks' self-portrait contains all the details to evoke a powerful first-response from the viewer -- colorful cap, pristine white suit, shades, and a toothpick. Slick gazes at us with the nonchalance and confidence of a man who knows himself

Its a pretty good artwork. his face really stand out and the artist shows his heritage and i think that alot of people need to show that in art.
That guy is really freaking me out. His eyes are coming out. That's very weird .He looks like an artwork made out of stick. I`m glad I`m not him because I would be embarrassed.
The white outfit and the white backround but then the dark complexion make him look like God. The hat, necklace, and glasses are far out. I would show this to fourth graders because his beard is rad.

Although this was made to represent a confident man who "knows" himself I think it represents something else. I think that the portrait is depicting how no one truly knows themself. We all at one point or another just fade into the backround and become someone we are not. No one knows themselves and if they think they do they are just second guessing themselves. Thats just my opinion.
