Spelling bee certificate misspells Spelling Bee A suburban Dallas junior high school student thought her friends might get a kick out of her Facebook posting of her spelling bee championship certificate — with spelling spelled with only one 'L.'

But Emily White didn't count on the posting of her certificate from the Richardson school board being picked up by other websites and achieving national and international fame.

The 13-year-old Richardson West Junior High School student and says she was chagrined that the image of the errant certificate was picked up by websites across the nation and brought ridicule to her school.

She tells The Dallas Morning News that she has written a letter of apology to her school district, which issued her a corrected certificate.

Wow! I bet nobody expected the people who organized the spelling bee to spell 'spelling' wrong. But why did they blot out her last name on the certificate if they were going to mention it in the article?

For this to be a competition based soley on SPELLING, that mistake shouldn't have happened. It's almost like a contradiction. Also, for this to be an official certificate I would think that there would be a spelling and grammar check before sending it off to the students. Then I don't think that Emily White should have apologized to her school district, I thinkl that it should have been the other way around. She didnt do anything wrong, and I don't think that the district realizes that it's their fault.

In the first place I don't feel that she should have apologized for the school districts mistake, if anything they owe her an apology, i'm pretty sure she could have spelled " spelling " correctly. Keep up the good work Emily.

how do u spell spelling bee wrong when your the spelling bee owners or leaders of it how do u miss one letter in it.

Wow they are the people that give out certificates for the spelling bee winners and they miss spell spelling bee. I find that very weird. Shouldn't they know how to spell that?

Education: I think they should of spell that wrong that why its call a spelling bee. That would be embarrassing for the person who wrote the cerificate. I think that would be sad becaues having the person who won to correct someone. i dont also understand that how does the spelling bee make a mistake.

I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THE SPELLING BEE MAKE MISTAKES THEY SHOULD KNOW HOW TO WRITE EVERYTHING. THAT IS WHY IS CALLED SPELLING BEE.THAT'S OK BECAUSE NOBODY IS PERFECT. I MAKE MISTAKES TOO BUT THE SPELLING BEE SHOULD SPELL EVERY THING RIGHT.

How does that work you go to a spelling bee and they give you a certificate and they spell spelling bee wrong? that is kind of funny though, I mean it was probably and acident but again that is pretty funny that someone that hands out certificates would spell it wrong.

That is funny. People are dumb. If you are doing official stuff you should know how to use spell check or at least have someone look it over.
