I can't find or see my students' comments or entries
There are 6 likely reasons for comments or entries that fail to appear:
1. Comments do not appear until a teacher publishes them.
- Log in as the teacher of the classroom or select the appropriate classroom using the "Change Classroom" pulldown above the "For teachers links."
- Click on "Comments awaiting approval" using the "For teacher links" which appear on the right side of the homepage.
- Tick the box to the left of the comment(s) you want to publish on your "Comments awaiting approval" page.
- Then use the "Update options" and select "Publish the selected comments."
- The click the "Update" button to publish the comment(s).
2. Some students do not hit the "save" button after they "preview," so their comments aren't saved.
You can check to be sure your students have saved their comments as follows:
Log in as a student and click on the "My comments awaiting approval" link to be sure comments have been saved by the student.
If the student has saved his/her comments, then the comments should appear in the student's lists and your list of "Comments awaiting approval" after you log in as the student's teacher.
3. Students did not sign up properly.
If a student did not register for the correct classroom when they signed up, then that student's comments will not appear in your list of "Comments awaiting approval."
To see whether ALL your students are registered for each of your classroom(s), click the link for "List of registered students." The comments of any student whose username is missing from this list will not appear in your list of "Comments awaiting approval."
4. If you have multiple classrooms, you may be logged into the wrong classroom.
However, if you have more than one classroom, you'll see the "Change Classroom" pulldown above the "For Teacher Links" after you log in. This pulldown allows you to manage ALL your classrooms without the need to log out and back in with the username associated with each classroom. You may use any of your usernames to access ALL your classrooms with the "Change Classroom" pulldown, or you may log in to each classroom directly.
Here's how it works:
- Log in with ANY of your usernames.
- Use the "For Teacher Links" to access "Comments awaiting approval," etc.
- To manage a different classroom, select it from the "Change Classroom" pulldown, which appears directly above the "For Teacher Links."
- Wait a moment to two for the screen to refresh, then the screen will display the name of the classroom you selected in orange on the right side of the page above the "Change Classroom" pulldown.
5. The comment you are looking for is "buried" beneath hundreds of more recently created comments.
Some stories have more than 1,000 publshed comments. And comments are published online based on the date they were created by students, rather than the date the comments were published by teachers.
So, if a teacher publishes a student's comment that was created several days ago, and if the story has many comments published, then it may be difficult to find that published comment beneath the story.
But you can always find your students comments by clicking "My class's comments."
