Poodle becomes mother to baby squirrels

Poodle becomes mother to baby squirrels After three baby squirrels lost their tree-home to a chain saw, they found a foster mom in a 4-year-old toy poodle named Pixie.

Dog owner Gail Latta said she tried unsuccessfully to feed the squirrels canned milk. Then the North Carolina woman turned to Pixie, who had recently had her own pups. They had been sold, but Pixie could still nurse. Pixie treated the foster squirrels like her own babies.

After two weeks, the squirrels were old enough to be weaned, and they had to go. Latta said she learned she might be violating state regulations by keeping wildlife in her home.

Latta said Pixie seemed a little upset when the squirrels were sent Saturday to an animal rehabilitation specialist, but she's OK. Dog biscuits seemed to help Pixie's recovery.

I don't know if it would be okay to have your dog nurse baby squirrels. Yes, its nice that Pixie helped but what was the owner thinking?? If anything, she should of took the squirrels to the vet or something so they can take car of it.

Why did the dog take care of the squirrels? I think it was because she found them and the squirrels thought she was their mother so they followed her.

I think that is so sweet that a dog would do that for squirrels. Why is there a rule that you can't have wild animals in your house if they don't have anywhere to stay especially baby squirrels?

Oh my gosh that is crazy!! how would the poodle feed the squrills?? weird but I guss it is cool, and would you still keep the squrills or just put them in the wild??

This is so sweet of Pixie! It's sad that they had to leave but it's good that they'll be able to live in the wild again. Hearing about the dog biscuits made me giggle. :)

Squirrels are awesome, but they can get to be really annoying if they invade your house, this lady is lucky they didn't. I didn't know a squirrel could survive off of the milk of a poodle. That's messed up, but I'm glad they squirrels are living now. I wonder if they affected the poodle in a harmful way because it said that dog biscuits seemed to help Pixie's recovery. She looks really sick in the picture though. I hope the squirrels and Pixie lead a happy life.

To be honest when I saw the title I thought a poodle gave birth to a squirrel. That would have been awkward. Its good that animals are being foster parents.

When i first read the title I thought that the poodle gave birth to the squirrels! But I guess they were just homeless squirrels with a new adopted mother. I am just glad that everything went okay.

I don't know if that is weird or cute. Definitely not cute. Something like that is just not natural but I guess the squirrels had no other choice. Never heard of a poodle that could nurse any thing other than puppies or in other words, it's own kind. In a way it is sweet how Pixie took care of them. And it's good she didn't make a fuss when they had to go.

This is the weirdest thing I've heard all day! Squirrels treating a dog like their mother and the dog being OK with that. That's rare and odd. No wonder it's under the category "Odd News". that's weirder thatn a monkey eating pie in the ocean which I didn't read but if that would happen this would still be way more odd.
