President Barack Obama raked in millions of dollars in book royalties in 2009 and got one very special $1,600 gift — his pet dog, Bo.
The Portuguese water dog, which was a gift from the late Sen. Ted Kennedy, was listed on annual financial disclosure forms the White House released Monday.
Royalties from his books, "Dreams From My Father" and "Audacity of Hope," rang in at between $1 million and $5 million each.
An oddity Michelle Obama shares with other recent first ladies: she gets so-called "pin money," an old-fashioned term for spending money a man would give his wife, from the trust of a man named Henry G. Freeman Jr.
Freeman died in 1917, stating that after the last relatives in his will were deceased, an annuity of $12,000 would be paid every year to each first lady during her husband's term as president. The reason he gave was that, in his opinion, presidents were poorly paid. His last relatives didn't die until 1989.
Obama's salary is $400,000. He listed no debts.

its pretty interesting knowing what Obama spnds his money on, but why pay so much for a dog? i would of personally bought something else.
I think the dog is very ugly. I would not pay this much for a ugly dog like that. He should have bought something that was worth 1600 dollars.

I dont understand how a dog could be such a high price. But I think any dog can be expensive, just not in the 1000 range. Dogs are like people, so they will be worth much money!
That is a really cute dog but I would not spend that much for it. Although Obama has a large salary, I would buy a dog for cheaper because its not like a t.v where you spend more to get a bigger screen or anything. No matter what dog, or what amount of money it costs I would love it either way. So I wouldn't spend so much when I can get another dog for cheaper that I would love equally the same.
I think that's WAY to much money for a dog! It's just an animal not like a yacht or a boat! The amount of money I would pay for a dog is under 300 bucks! One thousand six hundred is beyond too much its insane! If i was Obama i would buy something nicer than a Portuguese water dog! What does it even have to do with WATER? I would buy a Chijuajua. That is a lot of money for a dog! The highest price for a dog at Pet Co is only about $75. Since Obama gets a lot of money, to him the dog was only $5 off of his paycheck. If Obama has a salary, who pays him? He's the head,the highest you can go.
Aww it's a cute dog, but I don't think I would spend that much money on a dog though! Bo is worth nearly 1,000 dollars and that is way too much for a dog I don't no how people can get that much money just to buy a dog!!!
