Man receives two new hands
Man receives two new hands
The recipient of a rare double hand transplant says he feels "fantastic" and can wiggle fingers on both his new hands.
Richard Edwards made his first appearance on Thursday, about a week after he underwent a nearly 18-hour transplant procedure at a hospital in Louisville. The 55-year-old chiropractor from Edmond, Okla., had his hands severely burned in a fire in 2006.
Edwards was the nation's third double hand transplant recipient. The surgery was performed at Jewish Hospital, the site of the world's first successful hand transplant in 1999.
Doctors say Edwards' progress is ahead of other patients because they were able to route his existing nerves into the donor hands. Edwards lost seven fingers after his accident but retained most of his original hands, though they were badly burned.

With our latest technology, we can transplant body parts to the handicapped. Now paralyzed people will be able to walk once more. Since many americans are handicapped, this technology can help them regain their normal lives.
That is unbelievable, that guy actually got two transplanted hands from some place called the Jewish Hospital and why is that place called the Jewish Hospital anyways, what are all the doctors there Jewish.
that is so weird that a person has 2 new hands. he must be so happy. i would be scared of having that surgery i know i would be so scared. but it would really be a good thing for him.
Wow I'm glad he got his fingers back. That's amazing how they got his fingers back. I'm glad that doctor's and scientist are able to put fingers back on a human hand. I'm glad the medical business is evolving.
That is amazing.. How did he lose his hands in a fire though? That is a surgery phenomenon that need to be put in the books.
i think that's cool to get two new hands because i would be so sad if i didn't have any hands at all because u couldn't do anything at all,. like couldn't play football, catching all the thing u could miss out on but I'm glad he got two new hands...
