A Maine teenager is flustered but not hurt after a photo op with a squirrel went awry.

Seventeen-year-old Brian Genest, of Auburn, said he saw what appeared to be a friendly squirrel on a hand rail while walking through John Chestnut Park near Tampa, Florida. He was on a trip looking at colleges.

Genest took a "selfie" of himself and the squirrel, but the flash and noises from his camera phone scared the animal, which climbed under the teen's shirt and hung onto his back.

"He was just in that spot where my arm can't reach him," Genest said. "I threw myself on the ground and that scared him off."

Genest's mother, Paula Wright, snapped photos of the hoopla, which were originally posted to her son's Instagram feed along with his selfie.

Genest had approached the squirrel making clicking sounds with his tongue to get closer. His mother said the spectacle Saturday taught him a lesson.

"I think he got a little lesson from the squirrel that he's not really its buddy," she said.

She said neither her son nor the squirrel was harmed.

Critical thinking challenge: What was a student from Maine doing in Florida? Why wasn’t he in school?

This kid Brian is very lucky to not be harmed at all. squirrels can be very vicious when they get scared or someone is trying to harm or catch them. luckily for Brian and the squirrel their both OK without a scratch.

I saw this a while ago and thought it was hilarious. Why in the heck did the squirrel attack him like that? I guess that he doesnt like getting his picture taken.

The student from Maine was in Florida looking for colleges to go to after finishing High School. He wasn't in school because he already graduated and is again researching for a college.

I heard about this on Dan and Phil's Radio Show a couple Sundays ago. They are both YouTubers. Dan Howell is danisnotonfire. Phil Lester is amazingphil. Phil went to this same place and got attacked by a squirrel. He thinks it's the same squirrel. I think it's the same squirrel, too. They both were taking a picture of the squirrel. I think the squirrel doesn't like cameras. I think the squirrel doesn't like getting his picture taken.

That is crazy. That would of hurt too. I would not like to get rabbies either. At least he got a good shot. i i

The student from Maine was in florida looking at colleges the reason he wasn't in School is unknown maybe is on spring break or something.

This student was in Florida for one main reason. He was touring colleges that he may want to apply for. These colleges were probably University of Florida, Florida State University and University of Central Florida.

In the article, it says that Brian was visiting Florida because he was looking at possible colleges to attend in the next year. Of course he wasn't at school, he was looking for schools! It's especially hard to look for colleges when there is a squirrel attacking you.

Oh goodness that is funny. I am surprised that the squirrel aloud the guy get near him, but I guess the squirrel wasn't startled until he heard the flash of the camera but I guess that guy did learn a lesson.
